(I’m only exaggerating a smidge, you know.)
I’ll admit, there was a time I played in those games, too. I had Little Buddy in the Mommy and Me this and that. We were at the best playgroups. We made sure we hit the birthday party circuit. And then some.
Even though I worked full-time plus some at that point, I still didn’t feel like I was being a good mother unless I had Little Buddy in and at everything possible. At least the “good” stuff.
What made me realize this was all a load of boloney?
The day that Little Buddy told me he HATED soccer. I realized I had never even asked him. I had no clue what HE wanted.
From that day on, I’m a much more relaxed mother. There is really no one that I am aiming to impress.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want other mothers to think I’m a complete slacker. I just realized that in all of the competing to do, be, and be seen, I had missed the most important part –
the pleasure of being a mother.
What’s your Mommy Games story?
